Through hole PCB Assembly
Through hole PCB Assembly is a method of assembling electronic circuits on printed circuit boards (PCBs) using through-hole components. In this assembly process, electronic components are inserted into pre-drilled holes on the PCB and soldered to create electrical connections.
Through-hole components have leads or pins that extend from the bottom or sides of the component, allowing them to be inserted into the corresponding holes on the PCB. These components are typically larger in size compared to surface mount components and are commonly used for components that require mechanical strength or higher power handling capabilities.
The through-hole PCB Assembly Services process involves the following steps:
PCB Preparation
Design the PCB layout and drill holes at specific locations to accommodate the through-hole components. The holes are typically plated to provide electrical conductivity.
Component Insertion
Insert the leads of the through-hole components into the corresponding holes on the PCB. The components are placed on the top side of the PCB, and the leads extend through the holes to the bottom side.
Component Securing
Secure the components in place on the top side of the PCB using various methods, such as using clips, adhesive, or mechanical fixtures.
Soldering
Apply solder to the exposed leads on the bottom side of the PCB. This can be done manually by soldering iron or wave soldering machine. The solder forms a connection between the component leads and the PCB pads.
Inspection
Inspect the solder joints to ensure proper wetting and solder flow, as well as check for any visual defects or solder bridges.
Cleaning
Clean the PCB to remove any flux residue or contaminants that may have been left behind during the soldering process. This step is particularly important to ensure long-term reliability.
Secondary Assembly
Perform any additional assembly steps required, such as adding surface mount components, connectors, or other through-hole components to complete the circuit.
Final Inspection and Testing
Conduct a thorough inspection of the solder joints and perform functional testing to ensure proper functionality of the assembled PCB.
Packaging and Distribution
Package the assembled PCBs according to the specific requirements and distribute them to their intended destinations.
Through-hole PCB Assembly is commonly used for applications that require higher current-carrying capabilities, better mechanical stability, or for components that are not available in surface mount packages. However, with the advancement of surface mount technology, through-hole assembly is now less prevalent in many electronic products.
